Prom Country

Striking and beautiful, Wilsons Promontory National Park is known for its untouched beauty, bushwalking, camping and abundant wildlife. Huge granite mountains form a dramatic backdrop to rainforest and fern gullies, sweeping beaches and coastline. Watch waves crash onto the beach at Whisky Bay and listen to the sand 'squeak' as you shuffle your feet along the shoreline at Squeaky Beach. At Tidal River let the kids paddle in the shallow waters and watch the surfers try their skills at Norman Bay. Choose a walking track to suit your ability - they are many and varied in distance and difficulty.

Tidal River, 30 kilometres from the Park entrance, has a Visitor Information Centre, a general store and a range of accommodation from lodges and cabins to campsites.Beyond Tidal River, there are outstation campsites for hikers at scenic spots.

And let's not forget the country around the Prom - rolling green hills, rich farmlands with spectacular views and beautiful native Australian bushland. For the child in all of us, there is a ride on a historic train with the South Gippsland Tourist Railway at Korumburra. The steep and windy track skirts its way along the hills of the beautiful Strzelecki Ranges, with spectacular views across Gippsland and towards Phillip Island and Bass Coast. Korumburra is also home to Coal Creek Heritage Village, a place to travel back in time and relive the lives of coal miners long ago. The Village has become a gathering place for events with everything from Halloween to a Teddy Bear's Picnic to a Busker's Festival.

Koonwarra is the home of Gippsland's organic and sustainable food culture. Nestled in the heart of some of the most abundant farming land in Victoria, and surrounded by world-renowned coastal and mountain regions, Koonwarra showcases sustainable living from organic food and wine to art, furniture and clothing, through to accommodation, health and wellbeing. Enjoy its beautiful surroundings and experience its abundance and vision. The village hosts a monthly Farmers Market not to be missed. Not far away you'll find Meeniyan where you'll be delighted by the great food at Moo's and be sure to find some treasures as you browse the main street.
