San Remo

 

More than just the gateway to Phillip Island, the small seaside village of San Remo is an attraction in its own right. Home to Australia's largest shark fishing fleet, you can watch the fishermen unloading their catch and then taste it yourself with fish and chips from the San Remo Fisherman's Cooperative. If you prefer to catch your own fish, charters operate regularly from the jetty.

                                                

Before heading off, make sure you head for the foreshore at feeding time to watch the pelicans gobble their share. An eclectic array of gift shops provides ample shopping opportunities in San Remo, whilst a large number of dining establishments ensure you will never go hungry.

  

If the weather is good, you may like to consider driving down Back Beach Road (first entry point into town) and take a relaxing cliff-top walk to a viewing platform over Foots Beach. The walk takes approximately 30-40 minutes return and offers stunning water views. If you fancy a longer walk, the George Bass Coastal Walk is a must. Spanning seven km between San Remo and Kilcunda, the walk takes approximately two hours (one way) to complete. The walk starts at Punchbowl Road approximately three minutes out of San Remo.
